This is a photo that was given to me by the family
of Martin Schaffer after his death. I do not know anyone in the photo but
I thought the right place for it was on your web site.
The information at the bottom of the picture is all
the information I have. Maybe someone out there can send you more
information.

Dear Mr. Walker,
Concerning the BESS photo of Class 004 December 7, 1944
provided by the family of Martin Schaffer:
We've identified one man in the photo as my
father-in-law, Paul A. "Lighty" Light of Harrisburg, PA
(next to last row, second from left -- see attachment).
Sadly, he passed away on January 28, 2008 and I found the
picture online the same day. His wife and three daughters
each picked him out independently. I had been to the
site previously, but hadn't known his dates of service and
so hadn't looked too closely at the photos at the time. It
seemed like finding a needle in a haystack and the
picture meant so very much to my mother-in-law.
Paul talked very little about his time in the service.
He was badly wounded and spent months in rehab, and so
we believe the memories were just too painful for him to
talk about. We did think it fitting, however, to post his
name to the roster of this photo. We would appreciate it if
you did. It might mean something special to a
classmate or a family member out there. Your website and
others like it have given us about the only insight we could
have into this part of his life.
Thank you for your work. (Thanks as well to Jack March
for passing along the photo to your site.)
Sincerely, John S. "Knighty" Knight
