Class-135 Section-420 September 28, 1956 I am in the back row, third from the left. I was 17 years old at the time. I went from Sub School to the USS Redfin SS-272 and served on it until December of 1957. From there I was transferred to Portsmouth, NH for the commissioning crew of the USS Swordfish SSN- 579. I became an Electricians Mate while on the Swordfish and went on to Nuclear Power School. After NUC School, I reported to the USS Sculpin SSN-590 commissioning crew, and then on to the USS Von Steuben SSBN-632 commissioning crew. I was in the Submarine Squadron Eighteen Staff when I made E-8 and W-1. As W-1 I was on the commissioning crew of the USS Wichita AOR-1 and spent most of the Vietnam War in WestPac replenishing carrier groups as a one-stop shopping center. I retired as CWO-3 in January 1977. Paul Tennyson |
